Forest School started in Scandinavia and is growing very popular all over the world. It arrived in the UK in 1993 It is child centred, an inspirational learning process, focussing on the process not the product.

It offers opportunities for holistic learning and growth of an individual through regular sessions. Being outdoors encourages children to become independent learners and participate at their own level. It is fun and unhurried.

Forest school compliments the school curriculum and adds to a child's development in an active way. Forest School Ethos believes in Child-Led play and learning. It gives opportunities for communication, imaginative and thinking skills, problem solving, creative work and social skills.

Research is showing positive results of the benefit getting outdoors, children’s wellbeing and development is growing to the best of their abilities.

Kit list for our sessions will vary depending on the season. Ideally long sleeved tops and trousers so there is no restrictions on exploring, even in the overgrown areas.

Additional clothing will be discussed according to the time of year. Children will need to bring their own footwear - wellies or sturdy trainers. A snack will be provided but we ask children bring their own water bottle. In the home education session or holiday camp please provide a nut free packed lunch.

Risk assessments of the site are regularly carried out. Before every session a brisk inspection of the site is made to check for any animals faeces, litter, or uneven ground. We regularly inspect the growth of the wood, for protruding roots, dead wood and check if any little habitats could be hazardous. If there have been strong winds we carry out a more intensive inspection of the site to make sure it’s safe.

We are passionate to keeping all forest school sessions outside, and we will continue in all weather conditions except during strong winds which may result in moving to an alternative location or in rare instances the cancellation of a session.
